Still Water Coffee Table
Still Water is a square of American black walnut finished so flat and so evenly that it holds reflections like a pond at dusk. The 100 × 100 cm top is built from four boards laid in a rotating pinwheel, their figure turning around a central point so the eye circles the surface without settling. Tania levels and oils it in many thin coats, sanding between each, until the plane is optically true. Four short cylindrical legs, turned from the same log, keep it close to the floor at 32 cm. A one-of-a-kind piece; the pinwheel can never be repeated, because the four matched quarters came from one board only. Signed beneath.
