Kavir takes its name from the Dasht-e Kavir, the salt desert where wool this heavy is a practical answer to a cold night, not a costume. Homa weaves the cape flat on a horizontal loom, the same geometric kilim motifs she was taught as a girl worked across the whole width in undyed and iron-dark wool, then finishes the hem in a long, deliberately uneven fringe. Thrown over the shoulders like a blanket with a head-hole, it takes the place of a coat where a coat would be one costume too many. Heavy enough to sit on when the ground will not do. Hand-woven, one piece at a time; no two kilim runs repeat.
