Roya

Roya paints in oil and gouache on canvas and paper, moving between two studios and two skylines that keep turning up in the same frame — a Tehran rooftop line breaking into a Berlin courtyard wall, or the reverse. She trained at art school in Tehran before continuing her practice after moving to Berlin, and her work carries both educations: a classical hand with brushwork and composition, and a restlessness about place that shows in how often her paintings are unfinished-looking on purpose, edges left raw where a memory gives out. Collectors recognize her by a particular grey-blue palette and by buildings rendered slightly wrong — foreshortened, tilted — as if drawn from memory rather than a photograph. She lives and works in Berlin, and her paintings reach ATG directly from her studio there.
